Chalice Medical Ltd. have received several enquiries with regards the use of their products on patients that have or may have COVID – 19.
As with all medical interventions that requires a patient’s blood to enter an extracorporeal device, there is the possibility of blood spillage and therefore contamination of the surrounding environment. Due to the national and international constraints on testing patients for COVID – 19 and identifying which patients may or may not be infected, Chalice Medical Ltd. would advise that all healthcare workers using extracorporeal devices containing their products to wear suitable and locally approved Personal Protection Equipment [P.P.E] while operating these devices. This approach must continue during the safe disposal of these devices in air tight sealed containers that must be incinerated.
Chalice Medical Ltd. will continue to review the situation on a daily basis but our main priority is the safe protection of all healthcare workers who are involved with extracorporeal support.
